A Hebrew newspaper reported on Tuesday evening that talks have begun on the implementation of the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan for the Gaza Strip.
On Friday night, the first part of the agreement between Hamas and Israel on the ban and exchange of prisoners according to this plan.
The newspaper Haaretz said: "Sources familiar with the (indirect) talks between Israel and Hamas report that discussions have begun regarding the implementation of the second phase, which includes the withdrawal of Israeli army troops and the creation of an alternative government in Gaza.
In foreign diplomatic language, these are "only preliminary talks, currently they are gradually gaining momentum."
According to another foreign diplomat, whom the newspaper did not name, "Israel's anger over the number of bodies of abductees (Israeli prisoners) that have so far been returned (from Gaza) is not currently impeding the progress of the second-phase talks."
He noted that Israel was aware that Hamas would face difficulties in returning all the bodies and agreed to create a mechanism to find and return them.
Hamas handed over the bodies of four prisoners to Israel on Tuesday and the same number on Monday, leaving 20 bodies in the Gaza Strip, which the movement says takes time to extricate.
Haaretz added: "The two sides are expected to discuss the following issues in the coming days, including how to keep peace on the ground and establish a technocratic government responsible for providing public services to the people of Gaza."
He continued: "In addition to the Peace Council, which will lead efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip, President Trump will lead it and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair will work alongside him."
"The mechanism for disarming Hamas and demilitarizing the Gaza Strip will also be discussed, as well as how the two parties will monitor the implementation of this process and ensure its implementation," the paper said.
On Monday, Trump announced the start of the second phase of his Gaza ceasefire plan, without specifying.
As of 21:50 GMT, Hamas has not issued a statement on the second phase.
